abstract intuitive art

About

Birgitt Lübkemann is an intuitive abstract artist living and working between the Seychelles and Germany. On La Digue, water, shifting light and granite are part of her everyday life. Working with acrylic, ink and natural materials such as hand-collected granite dust, she builds layered surfaces that move between density and openness, structure and flow.

She works without a preliminary sketch, responding to what emerges. Lines gather, disappear and return; dense surfaces open into unexpected spaces. Each painting develops through a conversation between material, intuition and the life beneath the visible — until it “stops asking.”

Her paintings often feel like membranes or thresholds: spaces where inside and outside, depth and light, memory and presence meet. Lines appear as currents, roots, frequencies or threads of connection. Each painting becomes part of a larger field: a place of transformation, resonance and connection.

Her work has been exhibited at the National Gallery of Seychelles and Eden Art Space on Mahé, as well as in Berlin and Hanover.

“I am fascinated by the invisible lines that connect us — across distance, time, places and inner worlds. I see my work as a way of listening — to nature, to the body, to the unseen structures beneath what is visible.”
